Importance Of The Root Chakra – 5 Lifestyle Habits To Heal

Root Chakra

The root chakra is the first chakra in the human body. It is the basis of our physical well-being, hence the name “Root Chakra.” Imagine a tree with weak roots. Would it be able to stand firm? Would it be able to bear fruits? Absolutely not.

This is a clear example of a weak root chakra in the human system. The root chakra is associated with the survival functions of the body. This chakra is related to eating, resting, sleeping, and several other functions.

This chakra is also called “Mooladhara chakra.” Mooladhara means the foundation or support (base). A person with a balanced Mooladahara will have a sound body and mind and be less prone to chronic physical ailments.

The color of this chakra is “Red,” as you can relate to the color of our body from the inside. The color of the blood is red. It is located at the base of the spine.

Balanced Root Chakra:

A person having a balanced root chakra experiences these qualities:

  • Secure
  • Stable
  • Energetic
  • Eats healthy
  • Proper excretion
  • Grounded
  • Strong
  • Stays humble
  • Optimal weight management

Imbalanced Root Chakra:

A person having an imbalanced root chakra experiences these things:

  • Insecure
  • Unstable
  • Fear
  • Anxiety
  • Hard to manage weight
  • Low Confidence
  • Constipation

Root Chakra Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.

These root chakra affirmations will help you activate and heal your first chakra, making you healthy and strong.

  • I am strong, steady, and grounded.
  • I am safe, secure, and grounded.
  • I am at home in my body.
  • All my needs are always fulfilled.
  • I release all my doubts and fears.
  • I am confident.
  • I am abundant.
  • I have a healthy body.
  • I am grateful.
  • I am connected to nature.
  • My root chakra is balanced.

Root Chakra Location

It is located at the base of the spine. It is located at the base because it is our foundation. It provides the support to survive. Without the root, how can a tree or a plant live? So, without the root chakra, we can’t have this life.

This is the importance of root chakra. You might have heard about yogis with their third eye awakening or the awakening of their crown chakra etc. But in yogic culture, the first thing they do is strengthen their root chakra.

This is why they survive by having less food and less body maintenance. We can not control our hunger for a few hours; they are hungry for several days. Unfortunately, the root chakra is given the least importance in today’s sedentary lifestyle.

People with constipation issues go to the doctors and ask for medicine, but nobody wants to go for a walk, connect with nature, and exercise at least 3 days a week. People with high-stress levels also take medicines to control the chemical reactions happening in their bodies but do not have any interest in doing simple activities that will keep them healthy.

Root Chakra Healing

How To Activate The Root Chakra

It is everything related to the physical body at first. So, you must go out in nature to activate this chakra. In today’s world, most people live a sedentary lifestyle which directly affects their root chakra.

If you do not move, your physical features do not get used. You might have observed that when you play a sport, exercise, or do any activity requiring more energy and focus, your mind gets decluttered. This is because when you physically do those activities, you exercise your brain too.

This is the main reason behind our ancestor’s physical and mental health. Another factor that affects our root chakra is our food habits. Our body uses the food properly when we eat clean and nutritious food. In this kind of food style, there is less waste material that needs to be thrown out.

Our ancestors ate a clean, rich diet. The root chakra healing happens when we are clean from the inside. They did not have belly fat or high cholesterol levels. All they had was a healthy and robust body. A noticeable factor in the modern lifestyle is that we are disconnected from nature. When we walk barefoot on the ground, energy transactions happen between our bodies and the earth. (1)

Our body comprises the five elements of earth, fire, air, water, and space. These elements get cleansed when we get connected to nature. The way we connect our mobile phones to the power socket to charge them, we have to connect with nature to recharge ourselves. Root chakra healing is all about connecting with nature, eating clean food, drinking pure water, exercising, playing, etc.  (2)

Rest also play an essential part in healing our body. The amount and quality of sleep we get are as significant as our activities and diet.

Lifestyle habits you must cultivate to activate and heal the root chakra:

1. Clean and Healthy Food

Junk foods and oily foods are unhealthy. They slow down the digestion process making you lazy. Our metabolism also slows down when we consume junk food. Eating clean and nutritious food is a must to do to be healthy.

2. Clean Water

Consuming clean water is more important than anything else because the majority of our body content is water. Drinking unclean water gets into our system and works differently, negatively affecting our health. Water is the carrier inside our body, carrying nutrients from the digestive system to each body part.

3. Exercise/Play a sport/Walk

Activity is a must, especially for root chakra. As we strengthen our muscles and bones, our root chakra becomes strong. We damage our muscles when we exercise/play, the body repairs them when we sleep, and we get stronger the next day.

4. Connect with nature

As discussed earlier, connecting with nature will cleanse our five elements earth, fire, air, water, and space. Our mind becomes calm after spending some time in nature. Go barefoot on the ground, take a dip in a river or sea, go hiking, etc.

5. Affirm and Let Go

The affirmations mentioned above will help you to stimulate your root chakra. Let go of any fear, stress, or anxiety, and you will feel much lighter.   (3)
